Elizabeth Arnold is a director in the labor and employment practice at Berkeley Research Group (BRG) and has been advising clients on issues related to employment practices for more than two decades. She is an expert in the wage and hour space and provides advisory services and testimony on behalf of workers and companies nationwide. Ms. Arnold has conducted research at organizations of various sizes, from small nonprofits to global digital retailers, and in industries ranging from retail and transportation to professional services and healthcare. Ms. Arnold develops and implements customized research methodologies that address complex legal compliance issues at the state and federal levels.

Liz Atlee oversees CBRE’s robust global ethics and compliance program. She safeguards the company’s reputation and brand by identifying and mitigating risks within the business, ensuring the 115,000 global employees, vendors and stakeholders act ethically and comply with the company’s policies and the law. As a steward of CBRE’s culture, Ms. Atlee oversees the investigations center of excellence, known as the Trust Function, and global data protection and privacy program. She was previously CBRE’s deputy general counsel of global litigation, employment and intellectual property and data. Ms. Atlee was recognized as a Diversity Champion by Globe St.com and, in 2022, was named for a third time among the most powerful Latinas in business by the Association of Latino Professionals for America.

Matthew Axelrod serves as the assistant secretary for export enforcement at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security.

In this capacity, Mr. Axelrod leads an elite cadre of special agents and analysts dedicated to the enforcement of the country’s export control laws. He and his team protect and promote U.S. national security and foreign policy objectives by stopping exports of sensitive goods and technologies that can be put to malign purposes like weapons-of-mass-destruction proliferation, military and military-intelligence applications, terrorism and human rights abuses. They also work to ensure U.S. persons do not participate in unsanctioned foreign boycotts.

Vikram R. Bhargava is a professor in the department of strategic management and public policy at the George Washington University School of Business. He also is co-editor of the Journal of Business Ethics‘s section on technology and business ethics. Dr. Bhargava holds a joint Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in ethics and legal Studies (Wharton) and philosophy (School of Arts and Sciences). His research centers around the distinctive ethics and policy issues that technology gives rise to in organizational contexts.

Alan Cohen is a partner at deep tech venture capital firm DCVC focusing on an array of AI-enabled health tech, energy, security and enterprise platforms. He serves on the boards of Proprio, Reach Power, Evolv and Kentik. Earlier, Mr. Cohen served on the boards of DCVC companies Element AI (acquired by ServiceNow) and Caption Health (acquired by GE HealthCare). Before DCVC, Mr. Cohen was a successful product and go-to-market leader, technology executive and board member for over 25 years, including DCVC-backed Illumio, Nicira (acquired by VMware), Airespace (acquired by Cisco), General Growth Properties and IBM. In addition, he ran Cisco’s $25B enterprise marketing and solutions organization after the Airespace acquisition.

Kyle Freeman is a partner at Dezan Shira & Associates, a foreign direct investment advisory firm in Asia. There he leads the international business advisory team as well as the firm’s North American client services desk. He advises clients on market entry strategy, corporate structuring and establishment, and related tax and legal issues concerning investment in China, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. Prior to joining Dezan Shira & Associates, Mr. Freeman worked in government relations and China trade policy for various public and private organizations. His work included assisting in high-level, U.S.- China bilateral trade dialogues and organizing public-private cooperation programs to promote U.S. and foreign investment in China.

Christy Kaufman is a recognized leader with deep expertise in the risk management and insurance ecosystem. She has a proven track record of guiding large, cross-functional, global teams in the design and implementation of practical, value added risk and compliance programs and products. Ms. Kaufman is currently the VP of risk management and insurance services for Zillow Group, overseeing consumer facing insurance products, enterprise risk management (ERM), business resiliency, corporate insurance, health and safety, and crisis management. Previously, Ms. Kaufman led strategy, governance and compliance for American Family Ventures, a venture capital fund investing in early-stage companies at the nexus of risk and technology. She also formerly headed ERM and was chief of staff to the general counsel of Marsh & McLennan Companies, and she began her career as a risk management consultant for Aon and Ernst & Young.

Glenn Leon is the chief of the Fraud Section of the Criminal Division at the U.S. Department of Justice. In this capacity, Mr. Leon oversees over 150 federal prosecutors nationwide and supervises federal criminal investigations and prosecutions involving securities fraud, commodities fraud, healthcare fraud, government procurement fraud, federal bribery offenses and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Mr. Leon rejoined the Fraud Section last year after previously serving as an acting deputy chief in the Fraud Section’s Securities and Financial Fraud Unit. He also served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia for twelve years, where he prosecuted white collar, organized crime and homicide cases. During his 15 years as a prosecutor, Mr. Leon tried more than 25 jury trials, including an FCPA trial. Prior to rejoining the Department of Justice, he served as SVP and chief ethics and compliance officer at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) for seven years.

Caroline Louveaux is the EVP and chief privacy officer for Mastercard. She leads the company’s work at the forefront of the policy, regulatory and legal compliance on privacy and data protection globally. Ms. Louveaux spearheaded Mastercard’s global adoption of the EU General Data Protection Regulation as well as the adoption of Mastercard’s Binding Corporate Rules and APEC Cross-Border Privacy Rules to safeguard the future of Mastercard’s global data flows. Ms. Louveaux serves on the board of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and is a member of the advisory expert group on the OECD Privacy Guidelines. She is a member of the U.K. International Data Transfers Expert Council and the German Marshall Fund Taskforce to promote trusted data sharing. She is also a member of the ENISA Working Group on AI Cybersecurity and co-chairs the I-COM Data Ethics Council.

Sidney Majalya was previously VP, legal and chief compliance officer of Intel Corporation. He was responsible for effectively managing the company’s antitrust, anti-corruption and other legal compliance risk globally. He is also responsible for the company’s ethics program and co-chairs the enterprise-wide ethics and compliance oversight committee (ECOC) which oversees Intel’s overall compliance risk. Mr. Majalya joined Intel in 2019 from Uber Technologies, Inc. where he held the titles of head of investigations, head of legal compliance and head of global compliance, managing teams focused on legal, operational and global trade compliance for the 60+ countries and 700+ cities in which Uber operated. Prior to that, he worked at Oracle advising on a range of corporate compliance matters and spent nearly a decade as a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division.

Susan Salyer, SVP, general counsel and corporate secretary for Veritiv, is responsible for the company’s legal, sustainability, environmental, health and safety, global trade compliance, corporate security, risk management and DEI functions. In this role, she oversees the company’s strategies to support both Veritiv’s and its customers’ sustainability goals. Ms. Salyer joined Veritiv in 2012 and previously served as SVP and chief compliance and sustainability officer, in addition to assistant general counsel. She previously served in a variety of legal and compliance roles for National Lending Associates, Inc., Student Loan Xpress, and Thompson Hine LLP. Ms. Salyer holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.

Jason Prince represents and counsels exporters and multinational companies, including financial institutions, on an array of complex international trade compliance matters. He is the former chief counsel to the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), where he oversaw the legal design of new sanctions measures and led the legal review of all major OFAC enforcement, compliance, licensing, regulatory and litigation actions. Prior to the chief counsel role at the U.S. Treasury, he served as an attorney-adviser in the Office of the Assistant General Counsel for Enforcement and Intelligence, where he advised the under secretary who sits over OFAC and its anti-money laundering (AML) counterpart, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).His experience also includes serving as a law clerk to Judge Susan H. Black of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, as well as a deputy press secretary to Nobuteru Ishihara, a former Japanese House of Representatives member and Japan’s former economy minister.

Kate White is a partner specializing in privacy, data security and consumer protection at Kelley Drye & Warren. Ms. White spent more than 14 years at the FTC where she served in a variety of roles. In her most recent position as an adviser to Commissioner Noah Phillips, she provided counsel on consumer protection investigations and litigation, rulemaking and policy. She also served as counsel to the director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection and as a senior attorney in the Division of Privacy and Identity Protection (DPIP). In addition, Ms. White served two details to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation where she provided advice on a variety of consumer protection and privacy issues. Prior to joining the FTC, she spent four years as a privacy and information law attorney at the Transportation Security Administration.

David Wakeling heads A&O’s Markets Innovation Group (MIG), a group of lawyers and developers who are focused on the creation of innovative solutions for clients to meet large-scale legal and regulatory challenges. Mr. Wakeling was shortlisted as one of the most Innovative Lawyers in Europe by the Financial Times. He was picked as a “Rising Star” of up-and-coming executives under 40 in finance by Financial News, a Dow Jones publication. He has also been named in The Lawyer Hot 100. Mr. Wakeling currently leads A&O’s development of its artificial intelligence strategy and chairs the firm’s AI SteerCo.

Keith Williamson is a managing director with Alvarez & Marsal’s disputes and investigations team in London. He brings more than 25 years of forensic and investigative accounting experience (including 12 years in Asia), specializing in investigations of fraud, corruption (U.S. FCPA/U.K. Bribery Act) and regulatory issues, asset tracing and recovery (including cryptocurrency) and litigation support and expert witness services for disputes. Mr. Williamson spent nine years leading the firm’s Asia disputes and investigations practice in Hong Kong, having previously spent six years with AlixPartners in London and 10 years with Deloitte’s forensic and dispute services. Mr. WIlliamson is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Sara Castellanos is a news editor for The Wall Street Journal’s live journalism program in New York, where she plans topics of conversation and news coverage for WSJ events such as Tech Live, the Future of Everything Festival, Health Forum and the Global Food Forum. Previously, she spent five years covering emerging technologies for the Journal. She also covered startups and venture capital for the Boston Business Journal and politics in the Denver area for the Aurora Media Group. Nicholas Elliott is head of professional products innovation & strategy, The Wall Street Journal. In this role he is responsible for finding new opportunities to serve professional customers with news, data, events and other resources. He previously oversaw a team of specialist journalists and products at the WSJ and was closely involved with multiple launches of new professional products over a period of years. He held previous roles as managing editor of commodities and futures at Dow Jones Newswires, European capital markets editor and as a reporter covering European bonds and monetary policy. He holds a degree in economics from the University of York, U.K.

Rob Sloan is research director at WSJ Pro. His role focuses on providing thought leadership, building datasets and contributing to the WSJ Pro Cybersecurity newsletter. He is based in Princeton has been with the company since 2014. Previously, he was response director for a specialist IT security consultancy worked with multi-national organizations that had experienced data loss events. Sloan started his career working for the U.K. government looking at some of the earliest attacks against the critical national infrastructure. He focused on the motivations and technical capabilities of threat actors to understand the attacks in the context of the intelligence requirements of the states carrying them out.

David Smagalla is the bureau chief for Risk and Compliance Journal. Since 2005, he has worked on a range of coverage areas including venture capital and corporate governance, and previously served as the deputy editor for WSJ Pro Private Equity and Private Equity Analyst. Most recently, Mr. Smagalla was a senior publishing editor for WSJ Pro.

Under his leadership, Deloitte’s Global Center of Excellence for Blockchain Assurance coordinates the firm’s approach to designing and assessing systems of internal control and compliance over blockchain systems. Mr. Davis collaborates on research into blockchain governance and controls with the Digital Currency Initiative at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also represents Deloitte on a task force led by the American Institute for Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Information Systems, Audit, and Control Association (ISACA) working on identifying risks associated with permissioned blockchains and distributed ledger technology. He serves on the board of Treehouse, a non-profit dedicated to giving foster children in the State of Washington a future through education.

Michael Heller joined Dow Jones in 2013 and currently leads the firm’s Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) solutions business. Mr. Heller draws from a background as an attorney, sales executive and consultant to ensure clients building efficient compliance and risk management programs leverage the right data and technology.

Mr. Heller’s career has been focused on bringing transparency to global business. Subsequent to completing his law degree, he worked as a consultant with the business intelligence group, and later the anti-Money laundering group at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York City. Mr. Heller has also served as CCO and counsel at Abacus Wealth Partners in Los Angeles. He is a member of the State Bar of California.

Matthew Hobbs is currently the Head of FCC Strategy and the Sanctions Programme at SWIFT. Mr. Hobbs spent 25 years in the financial industry including Global Transaction Banking (GTB), where he focused on payments and financial crime. While at HSBC Mr. Hobbs was the Head of Transactions Screening Operations with a global responsibility for both technology and operations. He was responsible for incorporating an industry-leading machine learning solution into the screening operation, materially improving the efficiency.

Rob Massey has more than 20 years of professional experience in tax consulting for technology companies. Since 2013, he has focused on blockchain, digital assets, cryptocurrency and tokenization. Mr. Massey serves companies throughout the blockchain ecosystem inclusive of investors, miners, staking providers, payment processing, wallet hosting, exchanges, hedge funds, tokenization and protocol development. He leads Deloitte’s blockchain efforts in tax for the global firm.

Naresh Nagia is an Independent Senior Advisor to Deloitte and Touche; he advises banking clients on enterprise risk management, risk strategy, and managing the emerging risks of digital assets innovation. Heis a Chief Risk Officer who has led risk appetite development, enterprise risk, and cybersecurity as Group CRO of a closely regulated, systemically important financial market infrastructure in New York. Mr. Nagia guides growth and control strategies in highly regulated financial firms, helping navigate global regulatory expectations, balancing proprietary, client, and systemic risks. He draws on strong capital markets expertise, from his years of trading proprietary FX and managing liquidity risk at Citigroup. A mechanical engineer by training, he has an MBA in finance, is a CFA charter-holder, and is DCRO-certified in risk governance.

Tom Scampion is the CEO of GSS which brings global financial institutions together to deliver higher standards in compliance by providing a trusted platform to enhance and exchange information. He has over 30 years of experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of compliance systems and controls, particularly in the field of financial crime risk. Mr. Scampion has worked closely with regulators, law enforcement and counsel in the US, Europe and Asia. Previously, he ran a global risk analytics practice as well as various technology firms. He has led over 100 reviews of sanctions systems and controls. Mr. Scampion also served as the former Head of EMEA for a US software firm delivering cross-industry data management solutions to over 100 clients.

Petal Walker is a Managing Director in Risk & Financial Advisory at Deloitte. She helps clients, including digital assets clients, to demonstrate compliance with the derivatives and securities laws. Petal has aided clients in designing their products, drafting policies, responding to regulatory actions, designing and executing remediation, determining gaps in their compliance, and bolstering surveillance measures. In the past, Ms. Walker served as Special Counsel at WilmerHale, as well as Chief Counsel for CFTC Commissioner Sharon Bowen. She holds a doctorate in both law and education from Harvard in addition to her Bachelor of Arts in History from Yale University, and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She also serves as a Director on Women in Derivatives (WIND) and Chair of its Leadership Committee.
